What we do

You’re probably thinking: “There’s nothing I can do about HIV and AIDS” Right? Wrong.

HIV started small, but now affects nearly every country in the world. In the same way, together we can start a counter epidemic, standing against HIV and AIDS and alongside those already affected.

Donate today and join with us and with churches on the frontlines to have a positive impact on HIV and AIDS.

Here are some examples of how we will use your donations:

£10 will pay for a child to access a doctor and life-saving medication

£20 will pay for seeds and tools to help a family affected by HIV and AIDS grow their own food.

£45 will pay for us to train and equip a group of church volunteers to educate their community about HIV and AIDS.

£90 will pay for ten children impacted by AIDS to get hold of a school uniform and supplies to last a year.

Stories of hope

We work through local churches in twelve countries across Africa and Central Asia, believing that HIV and its affects can be defeated. We hope you will too when you read these stories…

Restarting a future interrupted

Restarting a future interupted imageAt the age of just 11, Rebecca was already a double orphan. With both parents dying of AIDS, she was left in the care of her Grandmother and Aunt. Although Rebecca longed to be with her friends at school, her typical day was consumed by fetching water, chopping wood and cooking for the extended family.

But through the generous giving of people in the UK, Samaritan’s Purse was able to work with the local church in Rebecca’s town in Bilene, Mozambique, training and encouraging volunteers from the church to show God’s love in practical ways to those affected by HIV and AIDS in their community.

By the time they came across Rebecca, she had been suffering from tuberculosis for over three months. The volunteers immediately took her to a local hospital, helping to cover the cost of medication. They also began explaining to her Grandmother the importance of giving Rebecca the chance to go to school, helping to cover the cost of her materials by drawing on Samaritan’s Purse funds.

”Rebecca’s life has changed dramatically over the past 6 months,” claims the local church pastor. “Her health is good now and she is progressing quickly through school. We have great hopes for her future.

Finding strength in the land

Finding strenght in the land imageLife became desperate for Irene after her husband died of AIDS. A widow at the age of just 27, she was forced to sell her cows and chickens to ensure her children had one meal per day and her father could receive life-saving medication.

Things got even worse when her husband’s family came to take back her land, claiming that it belonged to them and not his wife and kids. Trying desperately to cling to her only source of income and no longer able to even afford soap to wash clothes with, Irene’s situation was bleak.

But thanks to donations from people in the UK, Samaritan’s Purse was able to intervene. They began teaching the local church how God has called them to care for the sick and vulnerable - to care for them both spiritually and physically. When a group of churchgoers decided to form a Good Samaritan Team to help those affected by HIV and AIDS, they immediately went to see Irene and her family.

After learning that her land was to be repossessed illegally, volunteers from the church, together with other community leaders, approached the local government to plead Irene’s case. They succeeded in stopping the land grab and began to help Irene cultivate and replant her land, following the gift of a seeds and tools kit provided by Samaritan’s Purse.

As Cassilda, one of the church volunteers who has recently helped Irene purchase a sewing machine and has started to train her how to sew, explains: “It makes me feel so happy to be able to give something to children and families around me.”
